A monument to the legendary Soviet military leader Georgy Zhukov has appeared in Montenegro, TASS reports. It was installed in the city of Berane, located in the north of the country. The opening ceremony was timed to the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland, which is celebrated in Russia on December 9.

The monument is a bust of the marshal of victory, which is installed on a high pedestal, carved out of granite. The installation of the monument was initiated by the Kaludra public organization three years ago. The city authorities and other public organizations supported the idea.

According to the participants in the ceremony, the monument has become a symbol of friendship that has linked the fraternal peoples of Montenegro and Russia for many centuries. In addition, it will become an expression of respect and gratitude to all fighters against fascism.

Russian Ambassador Vladislav Maslennikov expressed his gratitude to the city administration and residents of Berane. In his opinion, their initiative is especially important against the background of the "war against monuments and the memory of the liberators" unfolding in a number of countries.

In the near future, it is planned to erect a monument to the Montenegrin hero Aleksandar Saichich, who bravely fought in the Russian military service, near the bust of the Soviet commander. The diplomat expressed confidence that these monuments would be the embodiment of the centuries-old friendship between Russia and Montenegro.
