A French citizen bequeathed a sum of money for the cats living in one of the largest museums of fine art in Russia - the Hermitage museum, Fontanka.ru reports.

The director of the museum Mikhail Piotrovsky was asked about the life of the Hermitage's cats by one of the participants in Mikhail Piotrovsky's traditional online conversation with visitors; such meetings are held annually. The head of the museum stressed that the cats of the Hermitage are surrounded by care from both the staff of the institution and the visitors.

According to the director, recently a French citizen bequeathed a sum of money to the museum cats, which became known this summer. At the moment, the issue of transferring funds is being finalized.

The Hermitage said that it has not yet been possible to find out whether the patron of art visited the Hermitage and St. Petersburg and what prompted him to take such a step. In addition to the cats, the deceased Frenchman bequeathed part of the funds to environmental protection organizations.
