Participants from 150 countries joined RSL international competition

150 countries were united by the International Competition in Russian as a foreign language. It is conducted online, according to the Russian Education website.

The largest tournament for Russian language experts is being held for the 2nd time. It was organized by the St. Petersburg State University with the assistance of the Ministry of Education. Almost 10,000 people joined the first round. Last year, the number of those who fought for victory exceeded 7,000 people.

Dmitry Ptyushkin, head of the SPbU Language Testing Center, noted that the number of participants increased by almost a third compared to last year. According to him, today the online format meets the needs of foreigners studying Russian as best as possible.

The participants were divided into two age categories. The first one unites students 12-16 years old. The second includes young people aged 17-30 years.

The first, qualifying round is a test in vocabulary and grammar. It was supplemented by open questions and creative tasks of increased complexity.

Residents of Latvia, USA, Singapore, New Zealand, Ghana, Syria, Belarus, Greece, Italy, Venezuela and other countries fought for the victory.

In the second, final, stage, those who will score the highest number of points will test their writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills. The results will be summed up in a month.

The main reward of the competition is the opportunity to pass the state testing in Russian as a foreign language free of charge. The certificates of the winners will also give an advantage when entering SPbU.
