250 years since the birth of the outstanding Russian navigator, Admiral Ivan Kruzenshtern, is celebrated on November, 19. An exposition was opened in the Russian National Library to commemorate this date. It presents a map of the first Russian circumnavigation of the world, made by Kruzenshtern, the Petersburg Diary newspaper reports.

The main exhibit is the Atlas of Captain Krusenstern's Journey Around the World, published in 1813. Drawings by the official artist of the expedition Wilhelm Gottlieb von Tilesius provide an idea of where the participants were and what they saw on the way. Archival documents and books from the library of Ivan Kruzenshtern, which accompanied the navigator on expeditions, are also presented to the public.

Ivan Kruzenshtern showed himself in military affairs and research work. In his youth, he took part in the Russian-Swedish war, after which, as part of an internship in England, he made a round-the-world trip and developed a route for the first Russian circumnavigation through the globe, which later took place under his command.

Later, Kruzenshtern headed the Naval Cadet Corps, was one of the founders of the Russian Geographical Society. Thirteen geographical objects in different parts of the world bear the name of the navigator.
