The draft resolution presented by Russia on combating the glorification of Nazism was approved at a meeting of the third committee of the UN General Assembly. It took place the day before, November 18, TASS reports.

The document was supported by representatives of 122 states. More than 50 of them abstained. As in recent years, two states opposed the resolution: the United States and Ukraine.

About 20 countries were co-authors of the text. They express concern about the glorification of the Nazi movement, neo-Nazism and former members of the Waffen-SS in any form, including  erecting monuments and organizing marches aimed at glorifying the Nazi past, the Nazi movement and neo-Nazism.

Gennady Kuzmin, who holds the post of Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the international organization, noted that this document could not be considered an attempt at historical research. It talks about the pressing problems that we have to face constantly today.

The diplomat explained that the draft resolution was not aimed at holding certain states to account, it is aimed at cooperation and dialogue.

In turn, the representative of Washington accused Russia of disinformation and said that Moscow "denigrates the neighboring states." The representative of Kiev believes that the authors of the document "manipulate history."
