Another Russian COVID-19 vaccine has passed registration, RIA Novosti reports. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin spoke about this at a meeting with members of the government. The second Russian vaccine was registered by the Vector center from Novosibirsk. The preparation based on peptide antigens was named EpiVacCorona.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, the vaccine is completely safe. The Deputy Prime Minister added that the first 60,000 doses would be released in the near future.

The Russian leader added that Tatyana Golikova herself and the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova had already been vaccinated with the new drug during clinical trials. Vladimir Putin believes that the production of vaccines should be increased. He stressed that, first of all, it is necessary to provide them to the residents of Russia.

Russia became the first country in the world to register a vaccine against the new coronavirus. It received the name "Sputnik V", which is related to another historical event - the launch of the first artificial satellite of the planet in 1957. The title emphasizes the importance of creating a vaccine for the global community.

Also, work continues on the creation of a vaccine at the Chumakov Federal Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immune-and-Biological Products of Russian Academy of Sciences.
