The United Nations expresses gratitude to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin for the offer to provide UN staff with a vaccine against coronavirus infection, TASS reports. The representative of the Secretary General of the international organization, Stephane Dujarrick, called the proposal very generous. According to him, the UN medical service will study it.

Earlier, the Russian President Vladimir Putin made a speech at the anniversary session of the UN General Assembly in an online format. He said that Moscow was ready to donate the Russian COVID-19 vaccine for UN employees free of charge. The President noted that Russia had already received applications for the supply of vaccines to the UN.

Russia became the first country in the world to register a vaccine against the new coronavirus. It received the name Sputnik V, which is related to another historical event - the launch of the first artificial satellite of the planet in 1957. The title emphasizes the importance of creating a vaccine for the global community.
