In Sweden, they are looking for sponsors for the installation of a monument to Rurik, who, according to the ancient Russian chronicles, was invited to reign in Veliky Novgorod and founded a dynasty of rulers of Russia. A monument depicting Rurik aboard a boat holding a child is almost ready, the website of the Union of Russian Societies in Sweden reports.

Next year it will be twenty years since the launch of the project for the creation and installation of the monument to Rurik. It was launched by the director of the Delovoy Petersburg newspaper, a member of the Union of Artists, Rikard Hoegberg. He himself carved a sculptural composition from Karelian granite.

The height of the monument is seven and a half meters, the size of Rurik's figure is close to three meters. The composition will be surrounded by fourteen granite shields, each 60 centimeters in diameter. The staircase, which has become part of the composition, will allow everyone to climb Rurik's boat.

At the moment, the creation of the monument is almost complete - the author is looking for a project sponsor. In particular, for supporting the project, donors are promised to place their names on the monument.
