Russian compatriots living in different countries joined the Candle of Remembrance action. According to tradition, it is held on June 22, on the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow.

In the Afghan capital, the ceremony was held at the cemetery of Soviet citizens in Kabul. Despite the fact that there were no military operations in Afghanistan in the 1940s, spies and scouts from different countries acted there. German, Italian, Japanese intelligence opposed the Soviet and British ones, which ultimately won. However, some victims of this clash remain nameless to this day. The candles were lit at a small cemetery on Mount Shir-Darvaza. The cemetery consists of twelve burials. The full name is preserved only on one grave.

A funeral action was held in the capital of Tajikistan. Its participants gathered at the Orthodox cemetery, lit candles, laid flowers at the graves of the fallen and honored their memory with a moment of silence. Russian diplomats, personnel of the 201st military base of the Russian Federation, bikers and Russian compatriots took part in it.

Commemorative events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow have already taken place in several Portuguese cities. Members of the Russian-speaking community of Albufeira gathered for church service. An exhibition of portraits of war veterans, the ancestors of compatriots living there, began in Algarve. "Candles of Remembrance" were also lit in Oeiras and in Lisbon.

In Sofia, compatriots, Russian diplomats, and everyone who cherishes the memory of the feat of the Soviet people, laid wreaths and flowers at the memorial of the Soviet Army and at the mass grave of Soviet soldiers in the Lozenets quarter.

In Kazakhstan, a documentary musical film Heroic Cantata was screened on the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow. The project was prepared jointly by Russia and Kazakhstan. It tells the story of the important events and battles of 1941, which made the “invincible” Wehrmacht army retreat for the first time. The film was based on rare shots of Soviet and captured German newsreels, quotes from famous feature films about the Great Patriotic War.

In Moldova, the “Candle of Remembrance” was lit at the Sherpensky bridgehead memorial.
