Researchers from Russia, China, Italy, Finland, Romania and Belarus took part in the international scientific conference dedicated to Joseph Brodsky. The online meeting was organized by Smolensk State University on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the poet, according to the website of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Five years ago, Smolensk State University for the first time hosted a large conference, which lasted three days. The university’s specialists are studying modern Russian literature, in which Brodsky’s name is written in gold letters.

Conference participants focused on the work of Brodsky, which was examined using modern research methods and in the context of Russian poetry of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

In addition to the conference in Smolensk, a festival of contemporary poetry was planned on the anniversary of Joseph Brodsky, in which the participation of famous poets Sergey Gandlevsky, Lev Rubinstein and others was planned. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the festival was postponed to autumn.
