Heads of countries belonging to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have stated that they were ready to consolidate forces and direct them to counteract the spread of coronavirus infection. This issue was discussed as part of an extraordinary meeting of leaders of the EAEU countries, RIA Novosti reports. It took place on Tuesday, April 14, and was held online. The meeting was attended by the presidents of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan - Vladimir Putin, Alexander Lukashenko, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev and Sooronbai Jeenbekov, as well as the head of the Armenian government Nikol Pashinyan.

The participants adopted a joint statement, where they underlined the need to support the citizens of their countries and the collective efforts of the world community to ensure the health and well-being of people during the pandemic.

The President of Russia, in turn, noted that the pandemic negatively affects all aspects of life, not only in the EAEU countries, but around the world as well. The spread of coronavirus affects the economy, the social and trade sphere, the mobility of the population has decreased, the global crisis is developing in the financial and commodity markets. Under these conditions, the burden on the healthcare system is increasing, and truly extraordinary measures are required to stop the spread of infection.
