Russian scientists will begin to work in Italy after the areas of their work have been agreed with the authorities of the country, TASS reports. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation explained that military doctors, virologists and epidemiologists have already arrived in Italy. Among them there are those who fought African plague, anthrax, and Ebola. They are about to begin helping Italy fight the coronavirus.

The first plane with Russian specialists and equipment on board landed on Sunday, March 22. The military transport aircraft IL-76 of the Russian Aerospace Forces landed at the airport of the military base Pratica di Mare, located near the Italian capital. It was met by Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Mayo.

In total, nine planes of the Russian defense department took off from a Russian airfield in Chkalovsk near Moscow. They delivered modern equipment for diagnosis and disinfection, scientists, and doctors needed to cope with the infection.

Airplanes are decorated with heart-shaped stickers and “From Russia with Love” signatures in English and Italian.

The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the issue of assisting Italy in a telephone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.
