Events dedicated to Defender of the Fatherland Day took place this year in various Polish cities. In Bialystok and other settlements of Podlaskie Voivodeship, they were conducted by participants of the Russian Cultural and Educational Society (RCES), the public organization wrote on its Facebook page.

Memorial events dedicated to the memory of Soviet and Russian soldiers who laid their heads on the territory of Poland have long become a tradition. Their integral part invariably remains a visit to Soviet military memorials. Paticipants bring flowers to the graves of the fallen and light candles.

Andrey Romanchuk, who holds the post of secretary of RCES board, expressed hope that the memory will remain forever in the hearts of future generations.

In all four Bialystok cemeteries, a memorial service was served in the Orthodox rite. Memorial ceremonies also took place in Warsaw, Hajnowka, Kleiniki, and in other places. The memory of soldiers who died in Poland during the First World War was also honored.

The RCES unites the inhabitants of Poland, whose ancestors remained on this land after the collapse of the Russian Empire. The Russian Cultural and Educational Society existed in Poland from 1948 to 1975, after which it was abolished by local authorities. In 1991, it was restored, and in 1993 returned its historical name.
