The reader's competition, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the poet Joseph Brodsky, opened in London. Applications for participation in the creative tournament were submitted by residents of Russia, the UK, Ukraine and other countries. The reader’s contest opened the London program of events for the poet’s anniversary, the Rossotrudnichestvo website reports.

Participants in the competition read the works of Joseph Brodsky and perform songs with his lyrics. Some accompanied their performances with slides and other illustrative material, while others prepared small performances. The youngest participant is 5 years old, a young resident of Krasnodar Yaroslav Roshchinsky was accepted out of competition.

Famous Russian and Belarusian actors and poets evaluate the work of the contestants. Valentina Polukhina, Honorary Professor of Kiel University of Great Britain, one of the largest specialists in the work of Joseph Brodsky, became the chairman of the jury. The professor’s archive, which she has been collecting for many years, has been transferred to St. Petersburg, the poet’s hometown.

In addition to the reader's competition, the anniversary program includes a children's drawing contest and festive evenings for children and adults, which will be held later.
