The exhibition dedicated to the archive of Russian emigration in Lebanon has started in Beirut, according to the website of the Moscow House of Compatriots. it is located in the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office. The opening of the exposition is timed to the 100th anniversary of the so-called “Russian Exodus” – a massive evacuation of the White movement officers and civil population to Western countries after the anti-communist forces suffered a defeat in the Civil War. The exhibition includes books from the Russian Emigrant Library, as well as pictures of Russians in Lebanon.

The photo exhibition was prepared by Tatyana Bacher, a prominent representative of the Russian diaspora in Lebanon. For many years she has been conducting scientific research and search works in the Russian and Lebanese archives, restoring the ties between the two countries and the history of the Russians in Lebanon.

The exhibition begins with a description of the journey of a Russian pilgrim abbot Daniel to the Holy Land at the beginning of the 12th century. It is supplemented by maps published in the 19th century for pilgrims.

The history of the Russian Library in Beirut began in the late 1930s. Emigrants from Russia donated books brought from their homeland. Gradually, the shelves were filled with books and magazines, which were brought from different countries of Europe.

At the end of the 20th century, the Russian Orthodox community handed over the collection of books to the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Beirut. Some of these publications formed the basis of the exhibition.
