Russia gets its first win in Winter Youth Olympics

Russian athletes won a record 29 awards at the 3rd Youth Olympic Games, which were held in Switzerland, and for the first time became the leaders of the competition in the medal standings. Thanks to the victory in the hockey tournament, the Russians managed to get ahead of the Olympics home team on the last day of the games. Japanese athletes came third in the competition, TASS reports.

The gold for hockey victory became the tenth for the Russians at the Olympics. The hockey team passed the tournament brilliantly, leaving no doubt in their superiority. The Russians defeated the American team with a score of 4: 0 in the final; the Russian team missed only three goals during the entire tournament.

The president of the Russian Hockey Federation and legendary goalkeeper Vladislav Tretyak praised the national team. He called the team amazing and noted the players’ dedication and good play. According to Tretyak, the national team and hockey players have a good sports future ahead of them.

The gold medal won by hockey players allowed Russia to even the score of gold medals with Switzerland. The Russians became the first in the team standings thanks to more silver awards.
