The Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra starts touring in Spain, TASS reports. The first concert will be held in Zaragoza.

According to the Philharmonic Orchestra, it was previously planned that the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mariss Jansons would go on tour, but it was cancelled after the conductor’s death. He died on December 1, 2019 in St. Petersburg.

Mariss Jansons has always maintained strong ties with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra despite his primarily foreign-based career. Therefore, the organizers of the tour proposed to The Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra to perform in Spain. Yuri Temirkanov will conduct the orchestra during the tour.

On Monday, January 20, the public in Zaragoza will enjoy the music of Russian composers - Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev. The famous Russian musician Nikolay Lugansky will perform as a soloist. The pianist collaborates a lot with the orchestra and often performs with Yuri Temirkanov.

The next day, musicians from Saint Petersburg will bring one of Brahms' symphonies and Tchaikovsky's piano concerto to Madrid. The program for the next performance in Madrid will also include works by Tchaikovsky and Beethoven.

The tour will also include Alicante, where the pianist from Uzbekistan Behzod Abduraimov will join the orchestra.
