Russian museums, including the largest ones, will join the popular #MuseumSelfie international action on January 15. Visitors to museums around the world post pictures with their favorite exhibits and the #MuseumSelfie hashtag. In Russia, the action was supported by the Kultura.RF website and the Ministry of Culture, the website of the department reports.

The State Historical Museum announced that they work with the Internet audience as eagerly as with real visitors. The representative of the museum Anna Filatova said that selfies in the modern world are often a statement and expression of attitude towards something, and the museum is interested in introducing people to co-creation.

According to Olga Babinoy, deputy director of the Russian Museum, the museum’s selfie action modernizes the museum, while emphasizing its importance as a repository of world cultural heritage. Olga Babina shared the idea of organizing an exhibition of the most successful shots made during the #MuseumSelfie campaign over the years.

The State Hermitage museum also intends to join the action. According to the head of the Gallery’s Information Projects Department Ekaterina Sharova, such mass actions allow the museum to talk about the Hermitage collection and interest new visitors. The representative of the museum urged everyone to take pictures with exhibits without disturbing other guests.
