Russian tennis player wins WTA tournament in China

Russian tennis player Ekaterina Alexandrova for the first time in her career has won the main prize of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), which was held in Shenzhen (China). In the finals, the 25-year-old Russian woman beat the athlete from Kazakhstan Elena Rybakina. Alexandrova is number 34 in tennis, according to the WTA, TASS reports. She became the first representative of Russia to play in the finals of this tournament.

The Russian woman for the second time made it to the final match at the WTA singles. Almost two years ago, she lost the main match of the tournament in Austria to a rival from Italy.

Ekaterina Alexandrova’s collection has a gold medal in the doubles WTA tournament, seven victories in tournaments of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Last year, she reached the third round of the French Open, one of the most famous tournaments in the world. This was her highest achievement in Grand Slam tournaments.

Last year was successful for a number of Russian tennis players, bringing a few new names to stardom. Last year in October Daniil Medvedev won the tournament in Shanghai. In addition, the Russian player won cups in Russia, the USA and Bulgaria during the year.
