The Russian sailing ships of the Federal Agency for Fishery called Sedov and Kruzenshtern set off on a round-the-world expedition from the port of Kaliningrad. The expedition is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica and the 75th anniversary of the Victory.

The expedition called Sails of the World will last for about a year, ships will cover almost one hundred thousand miles, more than six hundred cadets of Russian and foreign universities will practice on them, RIA Novosti reports.

The unique expedition to the Russian sailing fleet started in November, when the Pallada vessel set sail from Vladivostok. Three sailboats will meet near Antarctica, where they will hold a 200-mile regatta in honor of the 200th anniversary of the discovery of the continent.

The head of the Federal Agency for Fishery Ilya Shestakov called the project unique - in total, the vessels will overcome almost four lengths of the equator. He noted that the expedition received the status of an official state event.

It is assumed that during the travel vessels will call at the ports of all continents and parts of the world - about 40 ports will meet the Russian sailing ships. In foreign ports, other vessels will join the Russian expedition.

It will be possible to monitor the path of the ships and learn about events that occur on board and in ports during stops on the expedition website. Sedov and Pallada will make round-the-world voyages, Kruzenshtern – a transatlantic one. The expedition will take from ten months to a year or more.
