The process of resolving the situation around the fate of the frescoes by the Russian artist Viktor Arnautoff, which faced the threat of being destroyed due to the alleged insult to the colored population of the United States, was again suspended. According to the fresco advocates, the conciliation meeting dedicated to this dispute was postponed indefinitely, RIA Novosti reports.

The first conciliation meeting took place in early November, after the defenders of the Arnautoff’s frescoes filed a lawsuit in order to invalidate the decision to hide frescoes the Russian artist painted on the wall of a school in San Francisco in the 1930s. According to the claimants, the authorities ’intentions are contrary to California Environmental Quality Act.

According to one of the fresco advocates Lope Japa, if an agreement on the fate of the frescoes is not reached, court proceedings will begin. According to the practice of American courts, a decision can be made in two to three years.

Russkiy Mir reported that the attacks on the frescoes, in which human rights activists and San Francisco authorities saw an insult to blacks and Indians, began in mid-2019. The general public, connected to the protection of works of art, managed to defend them from being repainted. At the moment, a decision has been made to hide the frescoes.
