The 22nd Elisabeth-Sergius Readings, dedicated to the 155th anniversary of the birth of Grand Duchess Elizaveta Feodorovna, will consider traditions of upbringing and education adopted in Russia and Germany in the 19th and 20th centuries. Elizaveta Feodorovna was glorified in the face of the saints of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC). A scientific conference will be held in Wiesbaden, according to the ROC.

The readings were organized with the blessing of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture of Russia, as well as the Moscow government. Readings and other events dedicated to the anniversary will be attended by representatives of government agencies and public organizations of the state of Hesse, diplomats, scientists and museum workers from the two countries.

Elizaveta Fedorovna, a native of Darmstadt, was the wife of Grand Duke Sergey Alexandrovich, brother of Emperor Alexander III. She entered the history of Russia as one of the most devoted and active participants in the educational and charitable movement of the era. Part of the reports will be devoted to the contribution of the Grand Duchess to the development of education in Russia.

As part of the celebrations dedicated to the 155th anniversary of Elizaveta Fedorovna, services will also be held in the church in Darmstadt. The guests are scheduled to visit places associated with the biographies of the princess and other German natives who have become part of the Russian royal court.
