The centenary of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad (ROCOR) will be celebrated in Germany in early summer next year, RIA Novosti reports. The ROCOR Bishop’s council will be timed to this date. It will be held at the convent of St. Martyr Elizabeth Feodorovna in Bavarian Buchendorf.

The corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the ROCOR Synod of Bishops, which took place three days ago in New York. He was led by Metropolitan Hilarion of East America and New York.

The separation of the ROCOR occurred in the 1920s, when part of the clergy, along with other emigrants, left Russia.

Russkiy Mir reported that in 2007, Patriarch Alexy II, who headed the Russian Orthodox Church at that time, and Metropolitan Laurus, the first hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, signed the document on the canonical communion of the two churches in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. It is considered as the moment of unification. The event was attended by Vladimir Putin and prominent representatives of compatriots living abroad.
