The Russian embassy in the UK called the statements made by the head of the British government Boris Johnson unacceptable, the website of the embassy reports. The prime minister compared the actions of the Soviet Union with the aggression of Nazi Germany. According to Johnson, eighty years ago, Poland was between the "fascist hammer and the communist anvil."

This formulation of the question was surprising for the Russian diplomats. The diplomatic mission noted that it was impossible to equate the actions of the USSR with Nazi aggression, no matter what historical discussions were held on this topic. Moreover, if there was anyone other than Hitler who doomed the Polish people to tragedy, it was the British diplomacy. It was in Great Britain that they turned a blind eye to Nazi politics and rejected the proposals of the Soviet Union to create an alliance against Hitler. Meanwhile, such an alliance could have offered Poland an effective protection.

The embassy noted that the majority of Russians and British citizens honored the memory of the fallen and the allied assistance that the USSR and Great Britain rendered to each other during the war years. It was a pity that the head of government chose a different perspective, the diplomatic mission noted.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the attempts of representatives of various countries to blame the start of the war not only on Nazi Germany, but also on the Soviet Union, which lost tens of millions of people in the war. Diplomats are convinced that the goal of this open distortion of history is the pressure and denigration of modern Russia. The Russian MFA urged to rely on facts and documents in assessing the pre-war situation and military events.
