Tragedy in Beslan took place 15 years ago

Fifteen years ago, terrorists seized school number 1 in Beslan, RIA Novosti reports. A group of militants, led by Rasul Khachbarov, drove into the building all those gathered at the school assembly dedicated to the Day of Knowledge.

Terrorists took 1,128 hostages, most of them were children. The gym, which housed the bulk of the hostages, was mined. The captives spent more than two days in it without water, food and medicine.

On September 3, two powerful explosions went off in the gym, after which special forces began an unplanned assault on the school. Fighters of special forces covered up children, evacuated hostages from the gym and fought with terrorists. The fight lasted until the evening.

Three hundred thirty-four people became victims of the attack, including 318 hostages, of whom 186 were children. Eight hundred and ten people were injured. Among the dead are ten officers of the special forces of the Federal Security Service of Russia, two employees of Centrospas of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and a resident of Beslan, who took part in the rescue of the hostages.

According to the General Prosecutor, there were 32 people in the gang attacking the school. During the special operation, one militant was arrested - Nurpashi Kulaev, the rest were destroyed.
