The well-known French illustrator Cyril Arnstam has become a Russian citizen, TASS reports. A Russian passport was handed to him by a representative of the Russian embassy. The ceremony was held on Friday, August 2.

According to the charge d'affaires of Russia in France Artyom Studennikov, this is the restoration of historical justice. The diplomat congratulated the artist on his centenary. He turned one hundred years old at the beginning of the year.

The future artist left Russia with his parents in 1921 shortly after the October Revolution. He was two years old back then. At first Arnstam lived in Berlin and moved to France later but he never forgot about his historical homeland, despite the fact that he first visited the Soviet Union only in the late eighties.

Throughout his life, Arnstam did not interrupt his spiritual connection with Russia. As the embassy emphasized, he made a significant contribution to the promotion of Russian culture abroad. He did a lot to bring cultural values back to the country.

Over the past two decades, several of his personal exhibitions have taken place in Russia. In 2011, Arnstam was awarded the Mikhail Chekhov Medal for his great achievements in the cinema and in the theater.
