International Theater Olympiad opens in Saint Petersburg

The opening ceremony of the Theater Olympiad will be held on June 15 in Saint Petersburg on the square near the Alexandrinsky Theater, which will become its main venue. The program of the Olympiad includes over 50 productions of Russian and foreign theaters from 21 countries. For the first time, the Theater Olympiad will be held not only in Russia, but also in Japan, the website of Russian Ministry of Culture reports.

Festive events are planned on Ostrovsky Square and the sites around the Alexandrinsky Theater, along with Nevsky Prospect and other central streets of the city. Entrance to the event is free. At the opening ceremony, viewers will be able to see the first Russian and foreign guests of the Olympiad in 2019. Street theaters from France, Holland, Poland and other countries will perform. 

As Russkiy Mir reported, a special program of the Theater Olympiad was launched in the capital of Primorye on June 7. It covered the Magadan Region, Khabarovsk and Primorye Territories, Kamchatka and Sakhalin. 

According to the information on the website of the Theater Olympiad, the international program will open on June 16 at the Alexandrinsky Theater with the production of Bells and Spells by the French theater of the same name. Theater Olympiad will last until December 2019. 

The festival is held for the 9th time. It has become one of the main events in the program of the Year of Theater in Russia. In addition to productions that will be presented in different regions of the country and in Japan, the Olympiad will include lectures and master classes from prominent directors, actors and theater teachers of the world.
