The Russian Geographical Society (RGS) plans to carry out restoration works in the historic Orthodox chapel, which is located in Fort Ross, a reserve in California, Russian America reports. This idea was presented by the head of the RGS, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu during a meeting of the RGS's Board of Trustees. The meeting took place in St. Petersburg and was headed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Shoygu called Fort-Ross a place where informal dialogue between the Russian and American public was actively developing.

The proposal was supported by many entrepreneurs, who were also the members of the Board of Trustees.

According to Nikolay Tokarev, who heads Transneft PJSC, the project will make it possible to take another step towards restoring the historical appearance of the reserve. He expressed confidence that the project would become the next stage of dialogue and will attract everyone who was interested in developing relations between Moscow and Washington.

The head of the biopharmaceutical company Ferring Pharmaceuticals Frederik Paulsen also supports the idea, stating that the history of Russian-American relations should not be forgotten. Paulsen noted that the wooden buildings of Fort Ross were unique, but the US government did not allocate sufficient funds for their maintenance.

Over the past decade, Russians invested nearly half a million dollars in the development of the reserve. Due to this, the cultural object acquired its present appearance and attracted thousands of tourists.
