Lawyers of Maria Butina appeared to disregard the statement made by former FBI employee Robert Anderson, TASS informs.

Robert Anderson claimed that nevertheless "Butina was not a spy in the traditional sense," the actions she took were to benefit of the Russian Federation, and those actions "had the potential to damage the national security of the US."

Following aforementioned statement, US prosecutors have recommended to sentence Butina to 18 months behind bars on April, 19. Although, the Russian defence team requested sentencing her to a prison term of 9 months that does not exceed the time she has already spent behind bars.

The final decision is to be announced by Judge Tanya Chutkan on April 26.

Let us remember, 30 years old Russian gun-rights activist was arrested in Washington DC on July 15, right before the Helsinki meeting of Russian and American Presidents.
