Russian ambassador to Ireland noted improvement of Russian-Irish relations

Russian-Irish relations have remarkably improved in recent years, Russian Ambassador to Ireland Yury Filatov said at the opening of the 8th Country Conference of Russian compatriots living in Ireland. The ambassador noted the special role of compatriots in preserving the Russian world far from their homeland and the positive processes in relations between countries and peoples, the Coordinating Council of Russian compatriots of Ireland reports on its website.

Filatov stated that Russia supported and would support compatriots abroad. In a letter to the conference participants, read out during the meeting, the director of the Moscow House of Compatriot Peter Gladkov called Russian-speaking citizens important participants in public diplomacy, which affected the system of interstate relations.

The conference was attended by 31 delegates from different parts of Ireland, all leading organizations of compatriots sent their representatives to the meeting. Participants spoke about the activities that they carried out in different cities and regions of Ireland, and also discussed methods and forms of support for compatriots living in Ireland.

The issues related to the Victory Day events were also raised during the meeting. The resolution included information about the motor rally in May in three cities of Ireland dedicated to the 74th anniversary of the Victory.
