Poetry Day celebrated in Russia and worldwide

World Poetry Day is celebrated in different regions of Russia on March 21. One of the largest international festivals on the planet will be held in 60 cities of Russia and the world. The results of poetry contest will be summed up. Bus stops in Saint Petersburg are decorated with verse lines. World Day of Poetry is 20 years old this year. It was established at the session of General Conference of UNESCO in 1999. The holiday has been annually celebrated in Russia since 2000, SMnews reports . 

Gala concert of the World Poetry Day international festival will be held in Khabarovsk. Saint Petersburg poet Stefania Danilova organized the festival in 2016. It is considered one of the largest Russian-language poetry contests in the world today. This year, poets from 60 cities and 10 countries, including Russia, Germany, India, Serbia, Ukraine and other countries, take part in it. The jury received more than 3000 applications. Leading Russian poets Dmitry Vodennikov, Ekaterina Yashnikova and others evaluate the works. 

Saint Petersburg decided to bring poetry as close as possible to people and decorated the bus stops with lines from the works of modern poets. The action has already covered 20 stop pavilions, and the number will increase to 30 in April. The lines and poems were chosen during a special contest. The jury consisted of teachers of Russian language and literature. 

In Lipetsk, participants of the literary evening will read the poems of Alexander Pushkin in various languages, including Russian, German, English and French. Sergei Solovyov’s The Stationmaster movie based on Pushkin’s story will be shown. 

Russian police officers from different regions launched #PushkinUnites poetic flashmob. They read Pushkin’s “I keep in mind that magic moment” (To *** poem) in their native languages ​​and offer everyone to join the action. The famous lines have already been spoken in Russian, Buryat, Adygei, Tatar, Bashkir, Yakut, Ossetian, Chuvash, Mari and Udmurt languages. 

As Russkiy Mir reported, the program of World Poetry Day includes about 50 different actions. They will take place at the Literary Museum, State Children's Library, House-Museum of Marina Tsvetaeva, Solzhenitsyn House of Russian Abroad and many other cultural institutions.
