Russian and Estonian actors rehearse unique Brundibar opera

Staging of Brundibar opera by Jewish Czech composer Hans Krása is being rehearsed  by Russian and Estonian participants of Tallinn choirs, IA Sputnik reports. The premiere in Russian Theater of Estonia is planned for May, 8th. 

According to St. Petersburg project producer Yulia Broido, the opera is unique because it's written mostly for kids. Participants are picked from children choirs, while the adult roles to be performed by singers from St. Petersburg. 

The children's opera was written by Jewish Czech composer Hans Krása made most famous by performances by the children of Theresienstadt concentration camp in occupied Czechoslovakia in 1943. The opera became a symbol of Nazism resistance. Hans Krása and some of the kids who participated in performance have died later in Auschwitz.

Brundibar was staged in Russia menay times. In 2015 several premiers in St. Petersburg, Sakhalin and other places were timed with 70th anniversary of the WW2. 

Yulia Broido reminded that young actors were performing the opera in Theresienstadt concentration camp on Saturdays wor parents, musicians and actors. It was the only chance for listeners and participants see each other alive.
