The exhibition dedicated to Alexander Pechersky started its work in the Central Armed Forces Museum. It is timed to the hero's anniversary, Molnet.uu reports. Friday, February 22, marks 110 years since his birth.

The officer of Red Army Alexander Pechersky led the uprising in the Sobibor death camp. It was the only successful one. More than 300 prisoners burst free. Nazis managed to detect and kill more than half of them. Nearly 90 people who escaped Nazi raids were victims of Poles-collaborators, as well as local anti-Semitic residents.

Sobibor Camp was located in Poland. In less than two years, almost 250 thousand people were killed here. Most of them were Jews from Poland, France, Austria and Russia.

Immediately after the escape of the prisoners, fascists leveled the camp with the ground, plowed the fields and planted them with potatoes and cabbage. Polish authorities erected a monument in this place at the end of the war.

The exhibits are historical materials, documentary photographs, which can be used to trace the entire life of Pechersky. Public figures, historians and cultural figures became guests of the ceremony. Head of the Diplomatic Mission in Moscow Wlodzimierz Marciniak joined them. They saw excerpts from the video interview with Pechersky recorded in 1984.

The exhibition was initiated by Pechersky Foundation. The premiere of the play based on Luc poem by Mark Geylikman is timed to the anniversary. It will open the international project to perpetuate the memory of heroes of Sobibor.

Rostov State University of Economics, where Alexander Pechersky worked before and after the Great Patriotic War, will hold a chess tournament in memory of Pechersky.
