Slovo Cossack magazine will be published in Australia. It will include materials about the history and current problems of Russian Cossacks, and the events and actions of Russian community in Australia. The participants of the community agreed on this during the meeting at the first Russian Museum in Australia established in Sydney by philanthropist Mikhail Ovchinnikov.

Representatives of Russian community told Russkiy Mir that participants of the meeting voted to release a paper, not electronic version of magazine. According to Mikhail Ovchinnikov, this is dictated by the desire to preserve the printed word for future generations. “What is written with a pen will remain forever,” he said.

The compatriots also examined a letter from the Platov South Russian State Polytechnic University and The Great Don Army Cossack society with a suggestion to send young compatriots from Australia to the university in Novocherkassk. Members of the community supported the suggestion and decided to bring it to students of Russian schools in Australia.

Participants of the meeting also discussed measures to involve compatriots in the work of Russian community. It was decided to pay special attention to compatriots who have recently arrived in Australia. Analysis of popular social networks shows that about 7000 people in the country maintain their accounts in Russian.

One of the events that will possibly attract the attention of new community members is the 2nd Russian Cossack Ball. It will take place in the Sydney Olympic Park on May 24. Artists from Vladivostok and Moscow will perform there and go on tour in Australian cities after. According to the organizers, guests from Russkiy Mir Foundation, Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of Russian Abroad, the Cossack organizations of Russia, Russian Consulate General in Sydney and Russian Embassy in Australia will be invited to the ball.
