The Russian Boy film is included in the programme of the upcoming Berlinale Festival, IA Interfax reports. Young filmmaker Alexander Zolotukhin, the director of this movie, has recently finished studying at Aleksandr Sokurov’s studio in Nalchik.
The worldwide premiere of the movie will be at Berlinale on February 9. It is focused on the life of a simple village boy, who comes to the front of the World War I. He went blind in his first battle and became a “listener”. This is how they used to call soldiers, who were “listening to the skies”; they used special acoustic horns to detect enemy’s airplanes.
According to filmmaker, he was very interested in this topic and wrote the movie script by himself during the studies. Aleksandr Sokurov acted as the artistic director of the project.
Zolotukhin noted that he did not strive to achieve the reproduction of historical background with perfect accuracy. He explained that the idea was to show the image of the First World War It is focused on the people who are about to face many catastrophes of the tragic 20th century. The main actor is a boy from the orphanage in Saint Petersburg.
The shooting took place in Saint Petersburg and its district, Kronstadt forts and the streets of Vyborg Castle.
