The head of the Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill called the civilizational catastrophe the unprecedented intervention of the Ukrainian president in church life. It was ironic that all this was happening in a country that had declared adherence to European values, he added, Interfax reports.

Patriarch Kirill recalled that one of such values was the separation of church and state. The Kiev regime contradicts this principle by interfering in the administration of the church. According to Patriarch Kirill, Poroshenko practically headed the work of the so-called unifying council and took part in negotiations with Patriarch Bartholomew on autocephaly. And the Ukrainian president was not at all ashamed of this, Patriarch Kirill added.

He noted that, if this had happened in Russia, the world community would have expressed extreme indignation. It means that the world prefers to ignore the laws, if the political situation requires it.

The concrete political goal, according to the patriarch, was designated both by the representatives of the United States who were operating in Ukraine and by the representatives of the Ukrainian government themselves. They want to break the last bond that unites the two nations, this being a spiritual bond.
