Famous Soviet songs composer Alexandra Pakhmutova turns 89

Famous composer, People's Artist of USSR Alexandra Pakhmutova celebrates today her 89th birthday, RIA Novosti reports. 

Alexandra started studying music very early, and wrote her first song when she was just 5 years old.  

She was born on the bank of Volga river and started learning music in Stalingrad (contemporary Volgograd). With the beginning of World War Two she moved to Moscow and graduated from the Moscow Conservatory. 

Pakhmutova is popular for about 500 songs that she's wrote together with her husband, poet Nikolay Dobronravov. Soviet and Russian stars performing her music for more than half century. Many of her songs are loved by millions and have entered golden fund of Russian pop music.

Vladimir Putin congratulated Alexandra Pakhmutova with her birthday. The Head of State said that the living legend has written compositions reflecting history of Russia.
