The Governor and the Prime Minister of South Australia have become honored guests at the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Russian Center in Adelaide. The Consul General of Russia in Australia Sergey Shipilov represented his country at the event. Compatriots and their Australian friends celebrated the anniversary of the center in a historic building, renovated by volunteers, the Russian newspaper in Australia named Unity reports.

More than 200 guests gathered in the center's large hall with a huge copy of Viktor Vasnetsov's painting Bogatyrs on the wall. There were solemn speeches in Russian and English, Russian songs and dances in folk costumes from artists from folk ensembles (including children’s) that operate at the center and other organizations that unite the Russian-speaking residents of Adelaide and South Australia. The presence of Prime Minister Steven Marshall and Governor Hieu Van Le shows the importance of the Russian center anniversary.

The participation of Australian officials in the events held by the Russian diaspora is not surprising. The Russian community of Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and other Australian cities is one of the most numerous and active in their own regions of the country. Thousands of Australians gather at Russian fairs, exhibitions and concerts. Governors and mayors constantly emphasize that Russians bring diversity to the cultural life of Australia enriching it for tourists and immigrants.

The Russian center in Adelaide holds many events promoting the Russian language and Russian culture. Earlier, Russkiy Mir reported about the opening of the Russians in South Australia exhibition in Adelaide about events that took place long before the opening of the center. The Russian community began to form there at the beginning of the 20th century.
