The 90th anniversary of the famous writer Chyngyz Aitmatov has been marked in the US, KyrTAG reports. The photo exhibition dedicated to his creative heritage was launched at the UN library in New York.

At the exhibition opening the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov expressed gratitude to Russia that provided invaluable assistance in organizing the event.

The head of state reminded that Aitmatov is one of the three most published writers in the world. He follows Shakespeare and Tolstoy.

Aitmatov's books which he wrote in Russian have been translated into almost 180 languages. Their total number reaches 100 million copies.

The Kyrgyzstan President granted the collection of Aitmatov's works to the UN library as well as the writer's bust in bronze and the figurines of the male and female wolves, the main characters of the Scaffold novel, one of the most famous works of the writer.

Aitmatov was born in Kyrgyzstan and wrote in Russian and Kyrgyz. He was awarded the Lenin Prize and three USSR State Prizes. Experts argue that it is impossible to call him only a Kyrgyz, Russian or Soviet writer. His books have become the treasury of world literature.

As Russkiy Mir reported, last year it was decided to install in Moscow a monument to the author of such novels as The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years and Spotted Dog Running at the Edge of the Sea. The Kyrgyz Ministry of Culture is planned to grant funds for this.
