Press Service of the Ministry of Education and Science

The Russian Science National Project implements the goals set by the country's leadership, said Alexei Khokhlov, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). He presented the draft of the project at the RAS meeting, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.

In particular, in five years the country should get into the top-5 countries in prioritized scientific areas, make work in Russia more attractive for both Russian and foreign researchers. In addition, the growth of domestic expenditure on scientific research should exceed the growth of the country's GDP.

The national project involves simultaneous development in several directions. First, this is the creation of fifteen world-class centers of science and education. Their activities need to involve scientific institutes and universities but also the domestic business involvement in the new technologies development is crucial.

Business and science should unify to provide an industrial demand for high technology. Close integration with production sector will become a powerful driver of Russian science growth.

The competence centers of the National Technological Initiative faces the same task. They should ensure the leading positions of Russian companies in new high-tech markets. Over the next two decades, they will determine the structure of the world economy. These are the technologies of artificial intelligence, robotics, new energy sources, neurotechnologies, biotechnologies and etc.

The centres of science and education and competence centers are expected to attract at least 250 Russian companies in the new technologies development by 2024.
