Participants of the Russian Fleet Grandmother march arrive in Tunisia

Bizerte - Messina Memorial Swimming honoring the 106th anniversary of Anastasia Shirinskaya has opened in Bizerte, Tunis. It started with a visit to the museum of a woman devoted her life to preserving the memory of Wrangel's Fleet and its sailors, the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Tunisia reports.

Representatives of Russia, the Netherlands and Ukraine participate in the voyage, the goal of the trip is to tell people around the world about Wrangel's Fleet.

Anastasia Shirinskaya-Manstein went to Tunisia at the age of eight on Zharky destroyer, her father was its captain. Through the difficulties Anastasia Shirinskaya preserved many relics from the ships of famous Wrangel's Fleet, looked after the temple built by emigrants and Russian graves. So, she was called the "angel of Wrangel's Fleet" and "Russian fleet grandmother". For many years she headed the Russian community in Tunisia, in 1997 she received Russian citizenship.

As Russkiy Mir reported, Anastasia Shirinskaya died in December 2009 two and a half years before her 100th birthday.
