A campaign supporting Russian as a language for international communication was held in the Moldovan city of Cahul, News-Front reports. Hundreds of locals went on this strike, including the management of the local Russian community, social figures and politicians.

They demanded the Moldovan government of keeping the Russian language a status of the language for international communication and securing a right of parents to choose a language of studying for their children.

The strike in Cahul is another chain in a range of campaigns supporting the Russian-speaking population of Moldova. Organization Za-Rya translated as Organization For the Russian Language initiated the strike.

As the Russkiy Mir Foundation reported, activists of Za-Rya organization have already organized the campaign supporting the Russian language. Earlier they laid mourning wreaths to the building of the Constitutional court in Moldova with Chopin’s compositions playing at the background. It was a sign of misplaced acknowledgement of the law About Functioning of the Languages as out-of-date. This law guarantees the Russian language a status of the language for international communication.

Strikes supporting the Russian language were also held in Balti, Bessarabia, Ocnitsa, Ungheni, Briceni, Soroca and other populated areas of Moldova.
