The Moldovan population from cities and villages joint protest campaigns against discrimination of the Russian language. According to the organizers, resolutions will be made in the course of these campaigns. Later these resolutions will be sent to the authorized structures. Besides, the documents will directed to OSCE and Foreign Embassies, TASS informs.

More than 50 percent of the population is Russian speaking in Moldova. Their rights are violated on a permanent basis. More than a dozen of protest campaigns were held today with participation of several hundreds of people in Moldovan regions.

The reason for people’s agitation is decision of the Constitution court, which reviewed the law providing Russian with a status of the language for international communications. The court acknowledged the document out-of-date, which means that it must be amended. The court decision was a response to the appeal made by deputies of the liberal party who support the West and aim at separating Moldova from Russia, joining Romania and entering NATO.

Organizers have officially registered their movement called For the Russian Language. After all the official procedures are over, they are to continue their protest campaigns.

Activists remind that the new legislation on education lacks any references to the Russian language. Now they are talking that the voting bulletins should not be printed in Russian citing the court decision.

Rights’ defenders pay attention that this as a framework law giving basis for the whole list of regulatory acts and statements including the right to choose a language of studying or getting information as well as to address to the state bodies, the right for an interpreter in court, etc.
