The Russian Arts’ Auction Week has been launched in London. It started with Christie's Auction held on June 4. The income from selling the Russian and Soviet paintings exceeded 6 million US dollars, TASS informs.
The top bid was a A Dancer in Spanish Costume by Alexandre Iacovleff. An unknown buyer bought the masterpiece for 1,5 million US dollars. The final price was twice as higher as its estimated price.
A bust of a young lady made of marble by Russian sculptor Serafim Sudbinin was sold for more than 400 thousand US dollars. This sum is a record for auction sales of Sudbinin’s masterpieces.
Besides, the most expensive bid in the section of post-war arts was a painting by Oleg Tselkov titled Group portrait with watermelon sold for 250 thousand US dollars.
One of the most interesting bids for sale was a painting by Boris Grigoriev called Mother Arata, representing the Breton cycle of works of the artist. The price for this painting reached almost half a million US dollars.
Decorative-applied arts and icons’ auctions are scheduled as of today.
Traditionally the Russian Week is organized twice a year. The largest auction houses such as Sotheby's, MacDougall's and Bonham are taking part in it.
