Russian Compatriots in South Korea take an active part in the social life and conduct many activities directed at preservation of the Russian language and the Russian culture. Chairperson of the Coordinating Council of the Russian Compatriots in South Korea Ekaterina Popova shared this information during her interview to the website of Moscow House of Compatriots.

According to Popova, the country hosts, in particular, such festivals as the Slavic Spring, the Russian Autumn, Million of Scarlet Roses devoted to the Russian-Korean friendship. Our compatriots participate in the Immortal Regiment march and celebrate New Year together.

One of the most important projects, Ekaterina believes, is children’s scientific conference A Young Researcher initiated by parents of young compatriots where scientists and engineers working in the largest South-Korean companies wish to develop interest in science of their children. The conference’s agenda includes sessions in humanitarian, physical and mathematic sciences.

Ekaterina has also remarked that the interest of Koreans to Russians and their culture is high. “Koreans know that it is a great culture. They deeply respect it. People from Korea I know, are all aware of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. Probably, they did not read their books but they heard about them and know that they are the most prominent Russian writers,” Popova said.
