Nikonov: US will have more reasons to sit down for talks after Putin’s Address

06.03.2018

An important moment in the process of talks about control of arms has come, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education and Science, Chairman of the directors’ board of The Russkiy Mir Foundation Vyacheslav Nikonov is sure. In his interview to the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, he has reminded that the CHB-III contract is terminating. The politician has mentioned that US has stated that they are not going to prolong the contract, whereas Moscow has always confirmed its intention to continue the cooperation.

The politician has also commented on vivid discussions around short and intermediate-range ballistic missiles. US has blamed Russia for violations of the contract. At this, Russia has also a lot of claims regarding this contract to US, Vyacheslav Nikonov added.

He has also underlined that accusations of Russia failed to conceal the intention of Washington to cancel the agreement. “After Putin’s Address, I think, US will have more reasons to sit down for the talks and try to keep the control over arms,” Nikonov said. This is very probable as US lost their military-strategic superiority.

While Pentagon and US State Department assure that they were not surprised by the Russian Presidential Address to the Federation Assembly, it is very hard to believe in, Nikonov is sure. The Address concerned new types of weapons, which could be put on full combat alert at any time.

Note that, in the course of his Address, Vladimir Putin has advised that Russia has successfully completed tests of the newest technical ballistic complexes able to strike intercontinental targets with hypervelocity and high precision.

At this Putin has put a special emphasis that our country is not going to attack or threaten anybody. He has explained that Russia continues development of its military power without any certain plans to apply the advanced weapons.
