Russians celebrates 75th anniversary of Victory in Battle of Stalingrad

pixabay.comVolgograd is celebrating 75th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad. The last rehearsals were held in the city the day before, TASS reports.

The gala programme will start with a military parade at the square of the Fallen Fighters with participation of more than 1,5 thousand soldiers. Aviation show is scheduled as well. More than fifty warplanes, helicopters and strike aircrafts will fly in the sky. Spectators will watch a parade of more than 70 military machines on the ground.

As per the organizers, around 200 events dedicated to this memorable date will take place in the region. Topical expositions were opened in the museums on the previous day and the gala meetings were already held. Concerts for veterans, film shows, conferences, patriotic campaigns are planned on February 2 in Volgograd. Delegations from other counties are expected to arrive.

Russian compatriots abroad also have a chance to join the celebrations dedicated to the anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad. Flash mob under title Merci Stalingrad! will be held in the cities of France from 2 until 4 of February. The flash mob was actively supported by compatriots in Ireland. Adults and children took pictures with the banner with words of gratitude, recorded videos and published them on the Internet.

The gala concert was organized by the Russian club and MODIKO youth organization, according to the Russian cultural information center. Veterans, public figures and diplomats were invited to attend the concert.


Events dedicated to the victory of Stalingrad will be held in other European and CIS countries, such as Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, and many others. Many organizations are going to arrange memorial evenings, concerts and exhibitions. Everybody remembering those tragic days is welcome to join the campaign 200 Minutes of Reading: Dedication to Stalingrad.

Russian-speaking communities participate in Thank You, Stalingrad! flashmob. Any action, such as song, poem, poster design, video of a street action to be placed under hashtag #MerсiStalingrad online.  

The Battle of Stalingrad lasted from July 17 1942 until February 2 1943. It is believed to be one of the greatest battles of the Second World War. This battle has changed the course of the war completely to become an early sign of the Great Victory of May 9, 1945.
