United States extend Magnitsky list

21.12.2017

American authorities have expanded the list of Magnitsky having included Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov and four citizens of the Russian Federation, TASS reports. The US State Department Press-Service’ Head Heather Nauert has remarked that now the list comprises 49 names.

US Finance Ministry has informed the corresponding services about sanctions against five Russians in accordance with Sergei Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act. In opinion of American authorities, these people are involved into ex-judicial killings, tortures of people and rough infringements of basic human rights and freedoms acknowledged by the international community.

Reaction of Russian authorities has been instant.

Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of theFederation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev called the Act of Magnitsky a naked politicized story, advanced by Americans having no legal basis for existence. The senator is sure that Russia should not by any means interfere into discussions of this list or of any other examples of exterritorial justice. In opinion of Konstantin Kosachev, Russia should deny the right of Americans for such actions and condemn their interference into internal affairs of other countries.
