The military drama by Russian director Alexei German Jr., Air, was included in the main competition program of the 36th Tokyo International Film Festival. 15 films from China, Austria, Azerbaijan and other countries are competing for the main prize, TASS reports.
The world premiere of the Russian film will take place in Tokyo. The film by German Jr. tells about the events of the Great Patriotic War, the heroines are young Soviet pilots who go to the front without combat experience, but gradually gain it and show their best side.
The film stars famous Russian actresses and actors - Sergei Bezrukov, Elena Lyadova, Anton Shagin, Aglaya Tarasova and others. Filming took place over three years in St. Petersburg and a number of regions of the North-West and Central Russia.
The creators of the movie recreated the halls of the Hermitage during the siege years, the destroyed streets of Stalingrad, as well as airfields.
Last year, Russia was represented at the festival by films by Alexander Sokurov and Mikhail Borodin.
