The media in Italy do not want society in the country to know the truth about Russia, Russian Ambassador Alexei Paramonov is sure, RIA Novosti reports. In his opinion, the Italian media follow the general Western footsteps and purposefully write nothing about what is happening in Russia. It’s as if the Russian economy is falling apart, there is no cultural life, just as there are no national development plans that are actually being successfully implemented.

The diplomat lamented that Western propaganda is very good at creating an aura of toxicity around anyone who has a positive view of Russia. Such people are threatened not only by persecution in the media, but also by loss of work and loss of reputation, explained the head of the diplomatic mission. Even though there are many in Italy who support Russia’s actions, they have to disguise themselves for fear of dire consequences, the ambassador noted.

Alexey Paramonov stressed that many in Italy want the conflict in Ukraine to end as quickly as possible, so that sanctions are lifted. Then Italy and Russia could restore a dialogue that brings mutual benefit.

In Italy, the position of the Catholic Church is also strong, so the country is well aware of the humanism of Pope Francis. People are also aware that the conflict in Ukraine is fueled by the supply of weapons and military equipment from the West, in which Rome is also involved.

Activists in Italy collected signatures in support of a referendum on the supply of military equipment and weapons to the Kyiv regime. Although the media never mentioned it, the organizers collected almost 400,000 signatures. The ambassador called this a clear indication of the mood that reigns in Italian society.
